Going Wild

Today we were fortunate enough to dedicate our WHOLE day to the San Diego Zoo. It was...a zoo! And since Natalie enjoyed herself (for the most part), so did we.

When we asked Natalie what animal she wanted to see first, she exclaimed, "The giraffes!" So, that's where we went. I have to admit they were definitely one of, if not the cutest animals there.

This is Natalie being sneaky and climbing over the fence to have a better look.

She was pretty pleased with herself as you can see.

Michael brought our binoculars - he's so smart. They are a must have item for the zoo. Even Natalie had a kick out of looking through them - backwards - making everything even smaller than before.

The next animal on her request list was the camel. She somehow had it in her mind that she would be able to go on a camel ride. We hoped for some kind of animal ride but not one was to be found. Natalie was sad. So were we. The picture below was taken before she learned there weren't any camel rides.

What a great way to travel the zoo. Stroller ride while snacking on Cheetos.

Meet the African elephant, not to be confused with the Asian elephant. (There is a difference, you know, and we heard about it almost the whole time we were there.) He was so cute - sawed off tusks and all, poor thing.

While we were walking around we were visited by a peacock. It was beautiful. It was also pretty brave and let us get in close for a picture.

The one animal I really wanted to see was the Polar Bear. I remember seeing them up at the Hogle Zoo in SLC as a child and haven't seen one since. Lucky me, the polar bear was sleeping. I was SO sad. I wanted to see it jump in the water, shake off and smile at us. Oh well.

The flamingos were beautiful.

This crane was squawking...at me, don't you think?

Isn't this guy SO cute?!

Hippos! Both cute and ugly all at the same time.

Natalie being silly. I decided to join in on the fun.

There was a long line to see the panda bear. So I just pulled out the zoom lense and took a picture. Almost like I saw it up close. Right?

I caught Natalie jumping off stairs. Dare devil. She jumps 2 and sometimes 3 stairs at a time!

Right before we left we took a ride on the "Skyfari" tram. It was probably the highlight of our day. And if I knew it was included in the ticket price we would have ridden it a few more times. Oh well.

We even saw a gorilla from the tram as we passed by.

This is what Natalie does sometimes when I ask her to smile at the camera and say cheese. If it's not this, it's her pulling a face. I guess I'll take what I can get!

She does like giving me a little taste of my own medicine.

Happy kid. My favorite exhibit of them all.

That's a wrap! Tired and dirty, we said goodbye to the San Diego Zoo!

What a fun, fun day. When I took the kids to the Hogle Zoo in April, I wasn't looking forward to it really, but it turned out to be really fun. I love the San Diego Zoo, especially that sky ride. It is fun, and nice to just sit for awhile! Love all the pictures. We are getting excited for you guys to come! Is Mike coming too?

Ok:
Did you feed the giraffes? I think my nieces and nephew did when we went. Gross, slimy tongues.

Natalie's curly hair is to DIE for!

Come to Denver if you wanna see active and wildy entertaining polar bears. They have been that way every time we've been.

Panda line was long when we went. Not worth it for us--just saw one in the distance with it's butt facing us :-)

Maggie was inside me during our trip to this zoo. I wish she could have seen it all at Natalie's age!
